FAQ'S / MYTHS

Some people are apprehensive about seeing a hypnotherapist as they may be unsure of what it involves, or have misconceptions about it based on what they have heard, or maybe seen in films or television programmes. In this section I will address the common questions and misconceptions surrounding hypnosis and hypnotherapy.
What does a hypnotic trance feel like?

 

Each person's experience of hypnotic trance is unique to them, but many people describe it as being like a day dreamy state, and a very enjoyable and relaxing experience.

Is hypnosis safe?

 

In a word, yes! Hypnosis is completely safe. You cannot be hypnotised against your will, and even when you are in a hypnotic trance, you are always in control, and can come out of trance whenever you want.

Will I be made to cluck like a chicken?

 

This is the first question most people ask when I tell them that I'm a hypnotherapist, and the answer is definitely no. This question stems from stage hypnosis, where the hypnotist carefully selects compliant, extrovert types from the audience to go up on stage, and then uses hypnosis to entertain and make people laugh. Clinical hypnotherapy is all about helping you, the client, in resolving problems or achieving goals, and as such you will always receive my upmost respect and attention at all times.

Can I get permanently stuck in a hypnotic trance?

 

No-one has ever been permanently stuck in a hypnotic trance. Any professional hypnotherapist such as myself will bring you safely out of trance towards the end of the session, however, during a session, a client can bring themselves out of a hypnotic trance state anytime they want to if they so desire.

How long does each session last?
 
The initial session / consultation lasts between 60 and 75 minutes. During this first session I will be taking a case history as well as gathering any other relevant information that may be helpful in devising a treatment plan (if required) for you, before using hypnosis to help you achieve your desired outcome / goal. All subsequent sessions are 60 minutes. 
Smoking cessation sessions last between 90 and 180 minutes.
How many sessions will I need?
 
The number of sessions required will depend on the complexity of the issue you present with, and any underlying issues that will need to be dealt with in order to achieve your desired outcome / goal. Some issues can be resolved in just one session, while others may take additional sessions to resolve. This will be discussed during your initial session / consultation.
